Frequently asked questions

What is therapy?

Therapy is an opportunity to look at all the aspects of your life, your history, your dreams, goals, ambitions, as well as your disappointments and failures. The goal of therapy is to identify and use your strengths while improving upon your weaknesses. Walking down this path of self awareness will lead to an emotionally healthier and productive life. With the therapist, our clients work to see what changes need to be made in order to live the life they desire. Sometimes people feel that they are in a rut and do not know how to change the course of their lives. Instead of relying on fate to decide your future, you can work with a trained counselor who will guide you in identifying all that needs to be changed in your life and improve your current relationships.

How do I start?

The first step in starting your therapy program is to call us at 818-761-2227 to schedule your first appointment.

The first appointment is what is called an “intake session.” We pay special attention to each person who comes to CIFC for counseling. Potential clients are seen in an individual interview by a qualified intake counselor who assesses the needs of each client. We will have you fill out our intake questionnaire just prior to your appointment and the intake counselor will review your responses with you in the session.

After the intake session is completed, the information is passed on to our Executive Director who will then thoughtfully select from our staff of counselors the appropriate therapist for the client.

What if I don’t like the therapist selected for me?

Sometimes it does happen that a client does not feel comfortable or does not like the therapist that has been assigned to him or her. The Executive Director urges all clients who have any questions, comments or complaints about their therapist or any services offered at CIFC to contact her directly at 818 761 2227. She will be happy to re-assign you to another therapist that is better suited to your needs.

How often do I come for counseling?

Typically our 50 minutes sessions are scheduled weekly. However there are some clients who because of special circumstances will require therapy two to three times a week.

In the treatment of children and teens, it is our protocol to see the minor in individual sessions and encourage the parents to participate in additional family therapy to get the best therapeutic benefit for their children.

How much do I pay?

The first session is $25 for the 50 minute intake session. During the intake session, the counselor will discuss with you your financial options to set a fee that will be appropriate for your income level. Our fees are based on a client’s ability to pay for services and we try to accommodate all income levels.
